Your Party Determines Your Purchase

New data is revealing a sharp correlation between the way you vote and the way you shop. A new class of red and blue brands show a growing political divide as consumers increasingly patronize on party lines. The question today is why Democrats would rather drink from Starbucks than join their Republican neighbors at Dunkin Donuts? What about the Xbox makes it a republican favorite and why do democrats choose Wii? Most interestingly, why do both parties agree on Apple, Google, and Visa?

My personal theory is that the Democrats, and Republicans, have chosen the values their brands are going to emphasize in order to attract like minded people. Similarly, companies have done the same. So outside of circumstance such as geography and race, data is allowing us to see interesting correlations in value based marketing.

Still, there are some oddballs in there. What does a bible thumping republican party have to gain with the phallic ice cube trays at Hot Topic? What is the correlation between ‘we are the world’ democrats and Neiman Marcus? Maybe they’re going to Sak’s to confront the top 1% face to face?

The following is a list of stores ordered by what party the majority of it’s customer’s belong to. What patterns do you see?
